 H&M

The Clothing

http://www.hm.com/us/
This season's Summer 2013 collaboration is no other then H&M and Beyonce Knowles. The name is in correlation with Beyonce's upcoming World Tour Beyonce as Ms. Carter. The collection is being named Beyonce as Ms. Carter at H&M in honer of the tour. Swimwear is being produced in Canary Yellow, Tye Dye Tea, and Classic Black have taken the Media by a storm. These two piece silhouette swimwear pieces are being produced from Polyester, Cotton, Rayon, Linen, and may more variations of fabrics.

The Manufacture

http://www.newser.com/
When walking into the store and checking the products labels I was able to come across some of H&M's main garment producers. These producers all consisted of being Asian countries: Bangladesh, Cambodia, China,India, Indonesia, and Vietnam are just some of the few that were seen in the most popular items. After doing some research and coming across an article from Newser.com I found an article pertaining to H&M. In Cambodia, motorcart picks up garment factory workers in front of their factory after working a night shift. Cambodian lawmakers approved reduction of night time pay for garment workers highly effecting the economics of these workers.

The Quality

http://www.hm.com/us/
The quality of the products found at H&M resemble timeless classics but the actual texture of the products show a lifetime no longer than a year. Due to fast fashion being, well fast fashion the products are now being made the the quantity over quality mentality. One of the things that we can admire about the company though is its use to recycle their garments. Whether it is to reuse the fabric or donate it, H&M has began accepting donations. The plan is to use the clothing that has been bought from their store to make more clothes thus producing an Eco-fashion environment.

 UNIQLO

The Clothing

http://www.uniqlo.com/us/
The latest collaboration forecast by GQ's May edition has finally arrived at UNIQLO. The UNIQLO and Michael Bastian collaboration is now in stores with 16 different looks.  Attempting to Maintain his American Menswear High Stature he has created a shirt that has the right fit, the right sleeve length, the right body length, and just when you thought your polo was perfect, he adds the right collar height. With his design focusing on tiny details that people do not realize until they put on their polo shirt, Michael Bastian and UNIQLO have teamed up to once more give the universal man the ultimate basic needed for this summer at the right price. This slim fit shirt produced from cotton and polyester comes in the traditional Varsity colors we have become so accustomed seeing on all the preppy guys. Royal Blues, Varsity Reds, Track Green, Sky Blue, and an integration of Paisley Prints, and even animal prints. Truly a versatile and much needed basic.

The Manufacture

http://www.uniqlo.com/us/
UNIQLO despite their innovation in fabrics, silhouettes, colors, and overall clothes technology still have their products produced in Asian nations such as Bangladesh and China. Yet they have recently proposed to improve the working conditions, and wages of their employees in the production half of their products. They have proposed to establish equal wages by 2020. As found on UNIQLO.com they would like to produce all their clothing with harmless products during the production stage. Yet, they continue to outsource in poverty filled nations.

The Quality

http://www.uniqlo.com/us/
The quality of the clothing at UNIQLO is remarkable. Although the majority of the products found are all timeless classics and basics they have gone a step ahead by developing fabric technologies, and design innovations to produce the most comfortable and efficient clothing garments. Cottons, Polyesters, and UNIQLO fabrics are found throughout the store. Something that is basic and will last for a long time. Even their clothing campaign to recycle clothing should inform the consumer that UNIQLO clothing is here to stay, so much so that when you get tired of the shirts you can donate them so someone else can wear them.

Environmental Impact and Ethics

Point of View Regarding Ethics

http://www.ethicalfashionforum.com/
I find these Fast Fashion Giants dancing on the line between proper and improper ethics, aiding their company and consumers in one hand, yet hindering their workers in factories in the other hand. But for the most part I believe that with recent happenings of factory accidents and frequent discoveries of where garments are being produced and the population pushing for a Eco-Fashion company's such as UNIQLO are producing time withstanding pieces. And are also taking in donations to distribute to third world nations. H&M on the other hand is taking back their garments to recycle the fabrics and donate to an extent. But the fight being fought by many is the cycle of fashion how New things are introduced, then Better pieces, these pieces are being produced Faster, but then become Obsolete.

Point of View Regarding Environment Impact

http://yukamurai.com/
I believe that the Environmental impact is very negative! People, natural resources, and even the ozone layer is being negatively effected due to the mass productions of all these goods. Yes, by recycling clothing and pushing for an Eco-Fashion we are becoming more environmentally friendly but this does not take away from millions of factories operating daily to produced cheap labor goods. I admire what UNIQLO is doing by making better, longer lasting basics.

Pro or Anti Fast Fashion Collaborations

http://fashionbombdaily.com/
As a consumer I am all for Fast Fashion Collaboration. But as a fashion analyst and Fashion Marketing and Management major I know that collaborations hinder designer names and thus will have to tell my you that No Fashion collaboration are bad. I support brand ambasadore's but I find that when big names like Givenchy seek to make a collaboration its loyal and purist customers are hurt because something with such have social value is reducing itself to category. So all and all, good idea's collaborators, but I think these Fast Fashion Giant's know what they are doing to the consumer market just find without the assistance of big names.

Etro

Etro, which was found at Neiman Marcus, does a great job in their Spring/Summer 2013 collection with the two items from the collection shown above. First, the Gathered Round Neck Paisley Dress in black really sets the tone for what this Italian brand stands for, which is Elegance. The Dress was made of a silky jersey material, with three quarter long sleeves, a very classy fitted pencil skirt and a ruched round neckline dead center at front. As described by Neiman Marcus, “Etro’s dress highlights the narrow proportions of your waist…”. If this was not enough, Etro proceeded to showing this Shawl-Collar Printed Jacket in the color teal with a multitude of color on the print. With Teal being its dominant color it then expands into a multitude of white, green, purples, and blues. Yet it never loses its slim silhouette due to its Viscose/Spandex fabric. An innovative touch from Etro to show they’re a very customer friendly brand.

Bottega Veneta

Bottega Veneta (Spring/Summer 2013), which I found at Barney’s New York on the Class trip to Union Square, had to amazing pieces, which just stood out of the rack. One was the Floral Printed Dress. This dress was a Crepe V-neck Sleeveless dress with floral printing, which was then contrasted by studding. This use of embellishments certainly draw a lot of attention something that is then contrasted by the invisible back zipper. This silk produced dress is truly captivating. This dress did not hang alone; next to it hung a Fan Print Dress. This following silk sleeveless dress also had an invisible back zipper but differed in the fact that it had a fan print with smocked bodice as well as beading at the crew neck of the dress. A simple yet prestigious touch by Bottega Veneta

Marni

Marni’s collection at Barneys has a wide assortment. But what really stood out to me from the Spring/Summer 2013 collection were the Mum Print Dress and Fur Front Cardigan. First, the Mum Print Dress although not containing any fur demonstrates how Marni’s can either make everyday apparel or elegant trade’s men like work with fur. This scoop neck sleeveless dress comes in an eggshell white color with black print on a full scalloped skirt. Not a bad look to start summer with. Next the craftsmanship of working with fur is shown with the Fur Front Cardigan. The cardigan is made of cashmere knit with two-tone fur at front, welt pockets, and ribbed trim. A classy warm fur-lined cardigan to pierce a cold location where winter runs 6 months long.  Its Fabrics range from cashmere/mink fur to cotton/viscose lining with all its fur originating from Finland.

Prabal Gurung

Last but not least Prabal Gurung featured at Barney’s New York is worth mentioning. This American Designer really has become a household name after having dressed the First Lady numerous times. But this Collection the pieces that stood out to me weren’t something that we could expect to see Mrs. Obama wearing out in public. First is a beautiful White with Acid Yellow Embroidered Yoke Dress. This Spring/Summer 2013 collection piece was a silk and cotton blend crewneck sleeveless dress with what Barney’s is calling “Acid Yellow” embroidered yoke. A key structure element on the dress is the grosgrain ribbon at waist allowing a slimmer look and of course the invisible back zipper to avoid any distractions from the beauty of this simple dress. Next a Sleeveless Chiffon Cape Floral Dress is seen in the collection. Made of silk, this silk crepe de chine sleeveless crewneck pops right out at you with its loud floral print. Truly White, Grey, and Blue have never looked this good in Prabal Gurungs collection.
